In discussion with my hubby Jay last night, it occured to me that I love Halloween, not for the oppourtunity to be someone else, or to dress my soon to be six year old up as a favourite character (smurfette may have been the best I will ever accomplish as a mom - she looked amazing!) in fact I think it is because it means my most favourite time of year begins -- Christmas holiday season. I get to decorate ( after Santa's parade) watch movies I love, bake cookies without guilt, listen to music that makes me cry, laugh and fill with Joy.
Snowmen fill my house ( I kid you not) lights twinkle and I am filled with memories of a childhood and adulthood filled with love and happiness. My mom must have done pretty awesome at building my memory bank as a kid. I can remember ever smell, the ice rink, the wet snow angels at night, the first snow dance, the kenny rogers music ( i still have the 80's christmas album) and the hot chocolate that warms your fingers.
Every year that Jay and I have been together we pick out vintage toy ornaments to adorn our tree, and now Emma does too. It is time spent with family and friends and it is all just around the corner.
I know my love of shopping is in there, it is 24 days until my biggest shopping day of the year... that includes a super fun weekend away. Where I get to get caught up in the fun of looking for something just right for those I love..( I know it is not about the present, but it makes me happy to give something nice when I can)
So Let it snow let it snow let it snow.... and for all my friends that don't celebrate may your celebrations bring you the love and warmth that the next two months bring to me.
