What I know -- life as a mom of a fashionista

This week - November 14 to be exact - my little monkey turns five years old. She is more precious to us then anything else in the world -- and we are so greatful to have her in our lives - from sweetness to tantrums ( which are few and far between these days ) to snuggles and "I'm so fashion" moments.

I have assumed  since the moment I found out I was having a little girl - I would dress her in cute little outfits , not princess too much but more strong girl look - no frills - I even went so far as to make sure she had gender neutral clothing ( which was hard on dad) - then she turned two  - And she started asserting her dressing style - pure princess for a little whilte there -- wow that was alot of pink!

On she grew to develop a keen sense of style - this past week she wore striped peace leggings, with grey sparkly leg warmers, a puffy purple skirt, pink ( matches one of the stripes in the tights) shirt, and a grey sweater with ... black "dancing shoes"

This by no means is unique - she dresses her self daily and has for almost a year now - with some help with things kids needs - extra hard buttons, belts etc.

We pick out a couple of outfits - I edit only quanity of clothing she can wear. For almost the last 9 months she has worn a skirt and or dress everyday - not my choice -- hers. I have been so excited the lat couple of weeks that she has wanted to wear pants ( I actually had to buy some) Jeggings with skinny jean look and sparkles no less! She announced this weekend that blue was her new favourite color ( Yeah -- goodbye purple and pink clothes!) the funny thing I find is I buy her an outfit - and it evolves into a completly differnt look. -- the best and my favourite part of her whole love of fashion - the walk and spin she does!

My girl comes by her big personality easily - the women in my life - have big personalities - I wouldn't have it anyway -- but I can't imagine what 16 is going to look like -- but I am secretly pleased - she is developing a wonderful sense of self - she is haute couture of the 5 year old crew - only with out the inflated prices ..LOL

having this little lady in my life, in our lives - has changed us - we want her to experience the world, see the world, love people , and so much more -- I firmly believe she will do great things in life ( what mom doesn't want this)

I have learned a few things about fashion from her too.. I think I may have shared some of my fashion lessons with her too..

So here is my list of what I know about fashion ---

  1. A Purse always fit - buy wisely , buy what you love -- and venture into the world of colour
  2. Shoes -- simple and classic for me -- heels have never been my friend -- funky flats are good!
  3. underwear should be comfortable , and if it is not -- toss it!!!
  4. You should love everything you wear - fancy or not -- if you don't love it - toss it
  5. Expensive or cheap doesn't matter -- it needs to fit you well ( or how you like it)
  6. Dark Denim
  7. Lots of funky jewlery is good
  8. A friend who loves you can tell you -- NO that is AWFUL and really mean it, and your feelings will not be hurt.
  9. A tailor is your friend
  10. sew the pockets shut - your pants will sit nicer.
Thats it !

Looking forward to watching her grow into who ever she will be -- five years of fashion is nothing next to the rest of her life -- wonder if she will ever wear pants done up with safetypins from botton to top like her mom?
